arancini ai funghi

yihii.. another MasBar task done! this is my second time joining masbar event, this time i really want to commit on masbar. this month's theme is 'rice'. as i am living in a country where most of the people eat rice everyday, i should make this easy. but in the fact, it's not easy for me. i've been planning on making this recipe on last Thursday, but there's always something missing from the ingredients. then i decide to make them today. today, i also have to make a quick run to the nearest supermarket to buy mushrooms. it's all because i woke up late and the mushrooms in the traditional market have already sold.

the recipe itself, is not that complicated to make. quite simple except in the balling part, part when we have to shape the rice batter into cylindrical shapes. it's worth the effort, though. okay, without further ado, i'll give you the recipe..

KBB#16: Pandan Chiffon Cake

hello people! :)
this is my another KBB challenge. my 2nd pre-entering task. hahaha. on this KBB March edition, we're challenged to make an Indonesian recipe of Chiffon Cake. how lucky i was? since i were also promising you guys to bake another chiffon, right? and here it is.. a delicate Pandan Chiffon Cake.

this time, i made my chiffon so silky. it was so light and soft. i can taste the coconut milk and the pandan taste so perfectly combined in my mouth. oh my my, just one bite i have already fallen for it! i love chiffon cake! i like baking chiffon cake, it gives me something nice to feel. though i still experiencing disappointment that i still couldn't envelope my cake in it's brown skin flawlessly.

i used NCC's Pandan Chiffon Cake recipe. it comes out  in a beautiful texture that i want. have i mention that i love chiffon cake? oh yes, i have..

strawberry cheesecake

hey all..
it's been a while since my last post. well it's really because i don't cook much lately.. i have tons of assignment and some other private matters. hoho. but starting from 22nd of March, i'm back to the kitchen again. on 23rd, i cooked Rib Eye Steak, no photo included because it's for my anniversary brunch and i just didn't have time to take pictures of them before i swallowed them.

on 28th, my mom's birthday.. i made strawberry cheesecake for her. hey, you know, this is another pretty success baked cheesecake. i made them from new york cheesecake recipe and topped them with glazed strawberries.

the unsuccessful part was the decoration. not because of the taste, not because the recipe of course, but because of the assembling process i did. i put the strawberries before releasing the cake from it's springform pan. haha. so when the next morning i tried to release the cake, they became wobbly and the strawberries surely will easily fall down. i kept going and decorated them with italian meringue and burnt them with a blowtorch.

another new experience for me, using blowtorch. blame me for not knowing how to use it properly. haha. i can't make it blow it's torch continuously, whenever i try to light it, it just light in a very short time and vanished. i just knew that i should push the orange button this morning after reading Mbak Rina's blog. :)

that's ok, practice makes perfect. i can guarantee that i'll be better next day..

steamed (cup)cakes

lately these days, i don't know why i had a huge passion of making Indonesian cakes. so that.. yesterday, i tried making Potato Donuts but i don't have any report with me since i was not in the mood for taking pictures. today, i tried making steamed cupcakes/bolu kukus. i've never succeeded making anything steamed before, but in the contrary, i did it today. you can't imagine how happy i was that time, haha. even my parents laugh at me. that's why i really want to document everything here, yes here!

my dad once before when he was little had a little cake-shop, well actually it's my grandma's. as the result of that, my dad and aunts understand a bit on how to make cakes. the thing that i was going to say is, my dad gave me a comment for the steamed cupcakes, he said, 'you shouldn't be that happy, steamed cake is easy to make..' hahaha. i don't know if my dad's words are actually true, is that really true people?

well, i got the recipe from NCC mailing list. i guess the source come from Mbak Rina (click to see her blog..). i won't post you any recipe. the recipe is on Mbak Rina's blog, on her post called 'Bolu Kukus Mekrok'.

okay guys, i hope you also have a happy day just like mine.. thanks for reading! :)

portuguese custard tarts

i really want to make my macarons perfect, i also want to try another chiffon recipe with more egg whites (which can make it rise higher). thus, i need a lot of egg whites and abandon some egg yolks. so far, if i want to make anything with just one part of an egg, whether the yolk or the whites, i prefer using the egg yolks first then the egg whites some days later. from my so short life-experience in the kitchen i think it's better like that. so today i made another dessert using egg yolks.

it's portuguese custard tarts. i was actually wondering if portuguese custard tarts are similar to portuguese egg tarts or they're different from each other.. because when i was little, i used to buy and eat portuguese egg tarts from a food-stall called 'Lisboa', i guess the stall isn't exist anymore. what i remember is that portuguese egg tarts have a different texture with the portuguese custard tarts i made today. but for the taste, i guess it's the same. well, maybe i should look for more recipe on these portuguese tarts.

macarons

hi everyone, it's March already.. how fast? my holiday's over now.. :(
today, i'm trying to bake perfect macarons again.. well, still imperfect though. hehe. but at least, i've got their feet! yay! i can see them today.. i was so happy, but unfortunately the surface aren't smooth. if you think it's cracked, it's not cracked either. haha. it's wrinkled! strange wasn't it? haha. but never mind.. sure i'll make a better one next time..

referring to what i've read in KBB's blog before, about perfect macarons and how it should be and how to bake them well, i can make a conclusion today. my macarons are in the right texture, i guess so and i hope so.. it's a little chewy and smooth inside, crispy outside.

anyhow, i won't post any recipe today since the macarons haven't turned out perfectly. but when i have made them perfect, i'll post the recipe.. actually it's not really different with the one i made before, you can see it on my Parisian Macaroons post.

and for the filling, i just used my leftover dark-chocolate and melt them in a double boiler. a perfect combination for the sweetness of the macarons. i don't know why but nowadays i don't really like sweets as much as before..

out of this macarons' topic, i have already got my list for what foods i'll make this month. this month, my mom will celebrate her birthday and i really hope i could bake her one of her favorite cakes. teehee!

well, i think enough of the talk today, thanks for reading and see you on the next post..
have a great March, people! :)
