vegetable cream soup

i've decided to join another food group recently.. called 'Masak Bareng', this is my first entry for their monthly event. this month's theme is soup and i actually want to try zuppa soup for my post, but i couldn't find any frozen puff pastry nearby so i cancelled using the pastry on top of the soup. let them be plain. my sister likes this soup so much, she even asked me to cook it again soon. haha. well, i have to think twice about it since i'm not a huge fan of soup.

i used zuppa soup recipe that i have in one of my cookbook. i modified them a little bit. this is quite simple just like other soup. honestly, i don't love cooking as much as i love baking, but i still like it cause either cooking or baking occupy me in the kitchen and i like love being in the kitchen. despite that fact, i want to master both of them, so i guess i will continue to post frequently for 'Masak Bareng' event. hope i can make it..

klappertaart

happy valentine's day and happy chinese new year, readers..
i'm celebrating valentine's day today (Feb 15th) because yesterday my family and me were celebrating CNY. i'm making klappertaart for valentine's day. a bit awkward am i? hahaha. yeah, no chocolate, no heart shaped cookies, no pink garnishes; just klappertaart. i've been planning to bake this Indonesian dessert for so long since i haven't started blogging but i always find excuses for not making this Manado (North Sulawesi) dessert.
until a week ago..

a dear friend of mine whom his mother comes from Manado ask me whether or not i can make klappertaart. it's his favorite, he said. hmm, it's like a silver lining for me to finally make klappertaart. me and him were junior high school friends and we haven't met for a long time until grammy united us. haha. no, not really like we came all the way just to watch grammy together, we just talked about grammy. hoho. then from it on we always like to have a chat just to talk about anything until that klappertaart conversation popped up by itself. you know, i always adore him as my bestfriend and i am dedicating this klappertaart as a valentine's gift for him.

how about my boyfriend? hahaha. he's easy to please with any kind of food. but i guess, he won't like klappertaart. do you know, he's never eaten klappertaart before. and i take a conclusion that he won't like it because he doesn't like coconut, cinnamon, and raisins; they're all in klappertaart! hahaha. seems like i have to make other things for him. but that's okay, at least i won't throw that klappertaart away because i like it. klappertaart is just one of my all time favorite dessert, so proud that it's an Indonesian dessert.

klappertaart is some kind of custard pudding that consists of young coconut flesh and nuts, topped with soft meringue, and garnished with cinnamon powder, raisins, and any kind of nuts. i don't really know how to spell klappertaart, but so far as i know it uses double 'p' and double 'a'. haha. please correct me if i'm wrong..

for the recipe, i got it from Mbak Riana's blog.. as usual, i cut down the recipe half.

please try this dessert, you won't be disappointed. :)

rainbow chiffon cake

i am on my holiday now! yihiii.. as usual i've planned to bake this and that, but today is chiffon cake. rainbow chiffon cake to be exact. this recipe i got from Mbak Arfi Binsted, go visit her wonderful blog, it's very tempting. this recipe is in her post called 'Chiffon Rainbow Cake'.

this is my first time baking chiffon, it's not perfect of course. the skin which has to envelope the cake torn apart everywhere since i'm just one impatient girl (have to get rid of it soon). next time i'll do my best to make them stay. at first i also didn't have any idea about how i should use my chiffon tin, but really KBB does help me, whenever i have a question they will always answer me. and now here i am making my chiffon quite well, thanks for them! and now i fall in love with chiffon cake.. i promise you all the readers out there i'll bake another chiffon.

another thing which happen is that i didn't use any paste. i just used food coloring and mommy complained. she said i was a bit extreme on putting them into the batter. haha. i also made it half recipe because i don't have large chiffon tin.

okay, i guess enough for today's report.. see you in a few days later. thanks for reading! :)

coconut macaroons

hi all! i don't know why, but today i was craving for any kind of sweets that consist of egg whites. it includes either meringue or macarons. especially after looking at KBB post about macarons, the proper macarons, not like mine before! hahaha.

you know, i'm kinda thinking how stupid i was when i thought that i've successfully made macarons. it's completely not the way it should be and it was not a success. the reason why i thought it was successfully made is because i never could bake egg whites before, my first experience with egg whites is when i tried to make a Mont Blanc. the saddest part is that it never went to the oven, haha. my Mont Blanc recipe used almond powder to make the meringue, just like making french macarons. i never fold the almond, i always beat them with the sugar and fresh egg whites, that's why it was never stiff. haha. but then i learnt that oil is not meringue's best friend, it's meringue's enemy. if beaten egg whites meet oil, it won't be stiff and i guess ground almond contains oil.. hehe. that's why, we have to fold it when the egg whites has becoming stiff.

today, i haven't get the guts yet to repair my french macarons. so i start with coconut macaroons.. actually i don't taste any part of the meringue after it is baked. hoho. just sweet shredded coconut. but it's quite tasty and i like them.

cherry layered jelly

february has finally come! the month of love. hehe. well, not literally, since we have to spread love everyday everymonth, don't us? but actually for me personally, this year's february has some important events to celebrate like Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day, and alsoo.. i'm finishing my first semester of college which means i'll be on holiday again. haha.

so, since Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day are coming soon and they are going to happen on one same date, February the 14th. i have prepared what i'll make that day from now. hahaha. actually the jelly (jigglers as it said, you know what i used?) was something i made for experiment. preparation. tester. but it is delicious really delicious and i am very tempted with the color and really teased to take photos of them. yeah, typical colors of Valentine and Chinese New Year, shade of pink and red. although i know the color is artificial and unhealthy, but i think it's fine for some time in your life to eat that. my mommy and daddy are actually really strict with kind of artificial color, artificial flavor, and the other artificial-artificial things. but okay, once a year won't kill us right? hehe. :p
